The future.....today
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:08:51 PM »
I'm thinking about TFT screens (Thin Film Transistor) and how they are now becoming much more common on today's crop of motorcycles.

How long will it be before they are standard on all/most modern bikes, I reckon it wont take long. I've looked at them in YouTube reports and they really are very good but I've yet to try one for myself

Any thoughts/opinions out there

If man evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

IMO they are cheaper to manufacture than a needle meter and nicer looking in the spec sheet and on the dealer's floor - so, not long.

That said, I don't like them - they are distracting, less legible in bright sunlight, comprehending the information requires more time and attention and they are also uglier to me personally.

The later/latest incarnations of TFT screen which is a variation of LCD, are much easier to see in sunlight, that is one of the major features    :028:

Whether or not they are to your taste is of course your view (no pun intended) :002:

Apparently the one on the KTM 1290 (2017) that I tried was not one of those latest incarnations that you are referring to. Or maybe you don't really have a bright light in the UK :-))))

It occasionally becomes daylight here Peter   :008:

Maybe you should try the latest variation, my good friend here has recently purchased a new 2018 R 1200 GS Rallye TE, (this is his fourth GS) the TFT screen on his bike is sensational in all lights....including the occasional sunlight  :028:   I don't know how good or otherwise other manufacturers TFT screens are, but imagine they are all very similar

This may interest you
