I bought a new 1989 GoldWing back in 1989. It was a great bike the only knock on it was a wheel wobble at 120mph which turned out to be an an un-balanced front tire...I really like the new wing but don't think lane splitting with it would be too much fun...

I have a 2013 Goldwing and it is easier to lane split than on the Versys with the panniers - It feels only an inch or two wider than my Versys 1000 without panniers.
I regularly filter with the Wing when the management is on the back seat and have had no trouble at all.
The new Goldwing is even slimmer and I would say it is definitely narrower than the Versys equipped with panniers.

I have rode a number of HD and not one has ever grabbed my attention. Just not my style I guess. The Gold Wing has never been my style either but damn it looks good, and the reviews are decent.

To each his/her own. I'm just grateful that I live in a country with an abundance of bikes AND wonderful places to ride them!
agreed! Love having choices

It's 787 pounds. That's heavy. I've owned two of them, a 1500 and an 1800. I liked the 15 better than the 18. They're a great bike on the highway but parking lots suck. If it starts to fall over, all you can do is slow it down. Heavy bike. I wouldn't trade my V1 for one.

My 1500 was 900 lbs. Nearly hurt myself several times when the bike tipped a few degrees while stopped...back breaking effort to stop it, but never actually dropped it. Owned it for 5 years. I'd have eventually dropped it. It was a beautiful, fully loaded bike that was a dream on long trips...or even long day-rides. BUT...no way I'd trade the V1 for ANY year of 'Wing. The Kaw offers far more performance, better m.p.g., better handling, nearly the same level of comfort. BUT NO CRUISE CONTROL

Interesting tales of the Goldwing, i have never owned one but have ridden one a 1985 1200 Limited and the Interstate ..used to sell Honda back in the day and had use of the demos on the weekends , at the time i was more into sport bikes and such but the Wings proved to be surprising and fun to ride even back in 85 and were the top touring bike at the time , sold a few as well .
I do remember dragging the pegs on the interstate model, but the bike never came unglued and was always stable at speed , wasnt my cup of tea at the time but i know that wings improved immensely over the years .
Still rather have the Versys 1000 , price is a factor as well but i like what the Versys is as a motorcycle .
the 2018 wing is a pretty nice bike though and IMO a giant leap forward in Wingworld.
