Thank you for the replies guys.  I saw that my average MPG is running at 37 according to the instrument panel, and combined with the low coolant temp, I though the engine might by running in a rich open loop warm up mode.

To really know what's happening you'd need head temps for all 4 cyls, exhaust temps for all 4 cyls, and oil temp (in addition to coolant temp).

I'll just take the factory's word that if the gauge reads within "normal" limits all is well. The system may be more sophisticated than we know (or not). I suppose that's another thing I don't need to know.

Good thing, because I'm afraid if I knew a couple more things my head might explode! Not really smart...just a very small cranial interior.
I used to do self deprecating humor, but I wasn't very good at it.

Mine acts the same in the New England weather.  Block some of the radiator if you want to get the temp up a bit

The "guage" on a car is weighted with a great deal of "play" to keep the pointer near the middle unless it is very cold or very hot.

I think some of us are over analyzing this topic.  Don't worry so much and just ride the machine

What's wrong with over-analysing - isn't that what the hobby forums are for? You have the basic info in the Owner's Manual anyway. Plus it's winter in most places :-)

Maybe its the "over" part that seems unnecessary Peter  :002:

Over analyzing creates stress -  something we could all use less of.
