I am using now 16/42 and I am happy. I think I am getting slightly better fuel consumption, but the main reason was to lower the rpm during the long trips here in the big Texas.

What I like about my 16/41 is with new tires on, I’m running 74 mph @ 4K rpm and 92 mph @ 5K. This means I rarely exceed 5K rpm while traveling, vibration is at a minimum, fuel economy is improved, and the engine will ultimately provide more miles over its lifetime.

Gearing Commander , its a great site to compare gearing changes for any bike.
I do appreciate
why folks change the gearing on the V1 each to their own as to what they desire as to gearing.
I run the stock gearing 15/43 and have just replaced chain and sprockets as well as new T32 GT tires .
When touring i am nearly always in sixth at speeds between 55 mph and 75mph on average this works out to a RPM range of 3500 rpm to 4500 rpm.
I find that a roll on in sixth from 3500 rpm is pretty impressive and of course a shift down one or two changes things in a hurry .
All this is relative to the roads you are riding on , for myself it would be a variety of corners and straights which relates to changes in speeds as above , I do find with the stock gearing that when the road tightens up the ratios are right on the money .

Just arrived here. In New Hampshire.
I intend to change gearing to 16/41.
Does sprocket change alter indicated vs. true mph/kph?
Where is speedometer signal taken from?
Thanks,
Bili

I have 16/41. When speedo shows 70mph, GPS shows 66mph.

I believe the speed is taken from the ABS rings so any change of sprockets will not effect the Speedo reading.
BUT, If you have a gear indicator that uses pre programmed engine rpm / speed ratios it can then get confused if you change away from the stock OEM final drive of 15/43

Installed a 16T (was 15T) with the OEM 43T out back. Some welcomed reduction in RPMs at highway and excess highway speeds, but couldn't tell much difference elsewhere with 300 miles of riding in varying degrees of speed.
Biggest change, was reduction in engine/trans whine, because the new 16T was the rubber-damped version, not the solid type that was on beforehand. Highly recommend, and extra money well-spent.
