Akrapovic slip-ons
« on: March 27, 2018, 11:31:43 PM »
I recently notice that Akrapovic is featuring two different Ti slip-ons for Versys 1000; one listed for 2016 model and one for 2018.
http://www.akrapovic.com/#!/motorcycle/products?brandId=31&modelId=177&yearId=4077&programId=1&phaseId=1

I was wondering why as, in North America, the part number is the same for 2015-2018 OEM muffler. So, because I'm curious and because I wondered about my 2017 model, I e-mailed Akrapovic. For those who might be interested, here's their answer.

"S-K10SO20-HZT (2016) is developed to meet EURO3 standards, and S-K10SO14-HZT (2018) in accordance to EURO4 which is needed from 2017 on. The fitment is the same. Therefore both versions are confirmed for Model Year 2016, and only SO20 for Model Year from 2017 on."

I believe that the EURO 4 version also needs to have a non removable DB killer (or at least not as easy to remove as the screw attachment of the pre-euro 4 version.)

With the db killer in it does not make the sound much better than the stock muffler. Does benefit form some weight loss though.

Claude I think you have written it upside down......
S-K10SO20-HZT it's about 2018 models
S-K10SO14-HZT it's about 2013-6 models

The essential difference is that the model S-K10SO20-HZT if you want to remove the db killer you have to open the exhaust.
Why buy an slip-on that you will need to open it to remove the db killer ?????????
For my own model Versys 1000 MY2018 will order S-K10SO14-HZT to be able to remove the db killer easly, the two evaporates are hollows......

In the following drawings you clearly see that the model S-K10SO20-HZT is not to be able to remove the db killer easly, this is the difference between the two....

S-K10SO20-HZT (2018 models)

S-K10SO14-HZT (2013-2016 models)
