GPS Navi Apps on Android 8.0
« on: April 17, 2018, 12:10:38 PM »
A question for smartphone experts (if any on this forum): as I've written in other topics, I use a Sygic navi app on my AndroidOne phone. I set the path, keep the app in background, put the phone in my pocket and follow the voice indications I receive via bluetooth.
Now it seems that Android from version 8.0, to limit the battery drain, has limited how frequently apps can update GPS location when running in the background. In short, no navi app can work in background with Android 8. A very clever improvement.
I've written to Sygic about this issue but they just responded that they will answer as soon as possible.
To continue in my habits without hassles I downgraded the phone to Android 7, but I don't think this is a satisfactory  solution.
Any other one is experiencing this issue? Any ideas to solve it?

Well done Vesp, for raising this topic, I guess others will want to discuss'

FWIW I'm a bit of a Luddite with Apps although I do have a smart phone Samsung S7

So I will be sat on the sidelines of this thread whilst most of the posts go right over my old head  :008:  ...................whoooosh,   :034:

You can "whitelist" apps but thatrequires installing ADB.

 :763: Peter, I'll try.
I hope I won't mess the phone too much...

It works! Issue solved.
Thank you very much, Peter  :031:
This is a great forum indeed.

Thanks also to kotbaun for the suggestion, but Sygic is a good navi imho. The problem is caused by an android update and affects all the apps that access gps data.
