Insurance renewal quotes
« on: April 23, 2018, 09:09:58 PM »
I have recently heard from a couple of different sources that insurance companies are quoting substantial hikes to policy renewal quotes  because of 'modifications ',

Obviously I'm aware that engine mods and sometimes exhausts etc., can be expected to attract higher premiums,  but recently things like tank pads, radiator guards fender extenders and even bar risers are now considered as 'modifications' and therefore 'justify' considerably higher premiums, and I do mean higher  :exclamation:

I have no personal experience of this myself.......yet........BE WARNED    :exclamation:

Must work differently on this side of the pond: how do they know?  Are you required to report your farkles?

Yes, some/probably most companies ask about modifications when discussing a renewal, they also advise that they record calls for training purposes, as well as telling you that you must reply accurately or risk invalidating your insurance

I renewed in Feb for March and notified of end can, rad guard and screen. None of those made any difference and was told regarding the end can that they would only pay out for the original.
Thatís ok, the original is probably twice as much as the rafter market end can 😂
What if the whole world farted at once?

I have fitted a taller screen (Powerbronze light tint) and belly pan (again Powerbronze) to my Versys. I notified insurers, who simply listed it as "modified" on the Insurance Schedule. On the older classic bikes I have fitted luggage racks and top boxes. (All are under one policy).
My own insurers have said that they are not over-interested in modifications to improve comfort or appearance, however anything that enhances performance would be viewed differently.
Last year my premium increased by almost £50.00 over previous years (no changes on my part). I commented on this at renewal (I have been with the same insurer for some time) and they immediately offered a reduction to match last year's premium.
