I can't speak for all people, but who knows me can tell i praised the second gen as soon as it appeared in the news, and i don't deny my words now. However I admit to have added a couple on the new version and also stick to that.

some of the extras i've added to mine I can take off and fit to the new one, lower footrests, poss rad guard, etc.
not sure how the lowering plates will affect the suspension on the new one, i'll have to look into that.
handlebar risers I can take off and fit to the new one I would hope. poss the akropovic exhaust would fit, i'll take a tape measure to the show and see how long the link pipe is. The akro on the new one is black though, the mk2 one is silver. I could re-sleeve it in carbon if needed so that's not a problem.
Think i'll have to go and have a chat with my friend and see what he can do me one for.

From photos we've seen, doesn't the SE comes with a Kaw muffler -- redesigned, a bit smaller and more angular, but probably still heavy? That means the Akro will be an expen$ive option. If Akro wants $600 Kaw will want $1000 or $1100. So if you have one that fits, that's the way to go.  :028:

This reminds me of the auto business.  If I say I am going to buy a new Ford truck, this might mean Im looking at the 28,000 dollar, solid white, 150, 2 wheel drive work truck, or the 65,000 raptor.

No matter what I do, or how much I spend, I'll never able to turn my 28,000 truck into that Raptor.

A motorcycle is  a different thing.  If I can live without the self healing paint and fancy electronics, I can build a motorcycle that is better than the high end offering.

The electronic suspension comes to mind.  On a motorcycle, its never going to be amazing.  The reason is the spring rate.  Theres no way you can select one spring rate for a motorcycle.  Is it going to be sprung for my 190lb frame, or my 225lb friend (and his 245lb wife) when they ride 2 up?  It has to be  a compromised rate.  When we buy our own suspension components, we dont have to compromise.

The SE comes with a phone app, bluetoothed to the bike, that lets you select the electronic suspension settings for a particular load.

I've been keeping a running total of all the farckles installed on my 2016.  It ain't $5K quite yet, but around $2500.  Looking at it from that perspective, the price increase isn't so far out of line.  The new one is very tempting, but as others have noted, I'd take a real hit selling a perfectly fine, farckled to my liking 2016 model.  (Still may do it, don't wanna logic my way out of a bit of fun !).
Agreed. I’ve also put about $3000 into mine & am pretty happy with it now. Not that I wasn’t before, it’s just “personalized” now.  :001:
