Oil filter - 2 questions
« on: September 26, 2018, 12:02:35 AM »
1) Can the oil filter be removed by hand or a dedicated tool is needed?

2) If the oil filter is removed before the oil have been drained, will some oil leak from the oil filter location or is it high enough to eliminate this dropping?

Yes you can remove it by hand...if you have strong hands.. and yes oil will drip from the filter no matter if you drain the oil first or not since there is oil in the filter and its mounted horizontally.

Only the oil in the filter will drip? Or some of the engine oil also will?

Should only be the oil thats left in the filter as the level in the sump is below the oil filter ...you may however have a little run out that's left in the oil galley if the bike was just recently shut off...otherwise I would imagine most of that oil will have drained back to the sump

I found that the factory tightness of the oil filter was too tough to remove by hand.  Placing cat litter under the bike will soak up any oil drips.

Is that the drain plug fitting horizontally just above the collection tray?
