Even though I live in the desert, it gets quite cold, especially when gaining altitude.  But since we don't get snow, I ride all year and just prepare for the cold.  So here are some tips that occur to me:

If you've removed your hand guards, put them back on for the winter.

And if you have been thinking about heated grips, now would be a good time to make that move.  I don't like wearing big thick insulated gloves, but with hand guards and heated grips, I can just wear my summer weight deer skin gloves year round.  Guards + Grips = Magic.

Agree too about a heated vest or jacket liner.  It's amazing how much difference a warm core makes to enjoying the ride.

Battery tender seems like an obvious suggestion too.  Batteries need more help in cold weather.

Watch out for what appears to be wet pavement when the temps are low.  That might not be liquid water.  Along those same lines, remember that tires are less grippy when cold.

Part of riding in the cold months is psychological:  You just need to allow more time for preparing and getting the gear together.  There is something great about being out riding in the cold when you have all the right set up and are therefore perfectly comfortable when others think you must be mad.

Along with the hand guards and heated grips. I put on a set of ATV Mitts on really cold days. With the heated grips and mitts its like having your hand in a nice warm oven. I hate thick gloves also so i only ride with summer gloves...

I have always found the Vk to have good wind protection except for the feet so have just re fitted my feet wind deflectors I had on last year.

The big V is my Winter bike. Gerbing heated gloves are all I need.  Hardly ride it at all in the hot weather.  It's 90 (F) here today and I'm still cleaning up from Hurricane Michael

We're glad you are all right, TRex. That was a bad storm... a lot of lives and property ruined.

Thanks, Sonny.  50 miles East and I woulda been on TV in front of my shattered house, 50 miles West and I would be out riding instead of cleaning up yard debris.  Sometimes ya just gotta be lucky.   :020:

Yes, same up here in tornado country. It's a bad luck lottery you never want to win, and a miss is as good as a mile.
