Semi or full synthetic?
« on: March 17, 2019, 01:13:40 PM »
Mk.2 2015 . Oil level is only half way up the site glass, so needs topping up or complete changeover as this was meant to have been done by the Kawasaki dealer I bought it from. No signs of leaks or burning oil. Under 5k on  the clock at present.

Will use Castrol Power 1 4T, but should it be fully or semi synthetic, does it matter?

I tie it in a knot, then put it in my pocket, yet nobody knows it's there

Half way up is fine, semi synthetic is perfect . Fully synthetic is a waste of money for a road bike.

What Floydsz says +1.

Mine will be getting Motul 5000 when out of warranty. Run several FJRs on it clocking 20 -40 k a year. The dealer used Putoline (bulk) no spec at 600  oil change on my V.

I find gear changing works smoother with Motul 5000 vs 7000 on Suzuki Vstrom 650.

Have not decided yet what oil to use on my new 2019 Versys 1000. I have one canister of Motul 7000 left in my possession so I might use it just to get rid of it. I am planning to switch to LIQUI MOLY and use their 4T 10W-40 STREET. It is equivalent to the Motul 5000...

It will be Amsoil full synthetic motorcycle oil for mine. Previous owner had just changed it so I'll give it a few thousand 1st.

I look at it as cheap engine insurance.

Have been using Amsoil Full Synthetic in my bikes for years works great. When i went through my last case 2 years ago i went with Motul 7100 Synthetic Ester Motor Oil. I like it better than the Amsoil....

I've been using Castrol 4T semi synthetic since new. Half way up the little window when the bike is on the centre stand. Always take 4 litres with a filter change no matter what the book says. I check my oil daily about 5 minutes after getting home and stopping the engine. Not actually used any between changes yet.
2015 Versys 1000- 84,000 miles, 1 frayed starter circuit wire, 10 shims (over two checks), 6 rear tyres, 8 front tyres, 10 oil changes, 2 sets of plugs, 2 air filter, 10 fork seals,  1 set of head race bearings, 2 chain and sprocket sets, 4 screens, 4 pairs of front brake pads, 2 pair of rear pads (old ones wouldn't' wear out) 9 washes and counting.
