I have the SW Motech quick detach unit on my 2018.  I don't have a GPS, but I use it to mount my RAM mount for the phone and the display unit for my TPMS monitor.

The Motech unit was a breeze to install, and I can detach the Ram mount/TPMS monitor in about 3 seconds.  The latch is super sturdy though - I have no reason to believe it would come loose by itself.

Here is the best image I could find of mine:

Thanks for the info and for taking the time to reply! Definitely have to do some more research.

The OEM GPS Bracket is very limited. I replaced mine with the following:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402166840697
Short Long Phone Motorcycle Holder Double Socket Arm Ball Bases for Ram Mount
Mounted on a Ram Mount:
SW MOTECH 1 INCH ball for M8 thread For RAM arm. Black. Ebay £10
Then used a ARKON 25mm Ball to 17mm Ball Adapter - Black Amazon £9
to fit a housing that my Sat Nav is enclosed in.
This allows the Navigation device to be easy to view and adjusted if sunny or not required at that time.
Cost was £25 all in.

Thank you for the info TonyBro.

Thanks @CeTanu. The Tomtoms are big and I see that yours appears to be vibrating quite a bit. Is it a problem for you and is the TomTom a better unit then the Garmin?

The vibration doesn't really bother me but i guess it would be the same with every gps with this SW Motech mount. Maybe other mounts are better in this regard.

Can't really say much about Garmin as i only had 1 garmin 8 years ago or so.

Bought the tomtom last year after watching some reviews.
What did it for me in the end was the possibility to update and transfer your routes over wifi as i hate to plug in a gps every time i want to do anything.

As i was buying the tomtom the new Garmin zumo XT wasn't out or i might have bought that one but as it stands i'm very happy with the Rider 550.

I had my GPS mounted on the handlebars but changed to the SW-Motech anti vibe mount on the windscreen. Much better position as it is just above the instruments and the same focal length. Garmin Zumo 595

I have the Garmin 595LM on a RAM mount over the left hand bar.  I like its placement as its close to the left hand and high enough that I don't need to look down to see the screen.  If I was looking for a GPS I would get one that either sits above the dash or up and off the handlebars.

If I was get a new GPS, I would keep it mounted in the same spot, but would look at some of the reviews of the new Garmin unit to see if its a worthwhile upgrade.

I have the same set up, using the long 5.2" extension RAM bar. Very easy to see.
