Dunlop 'Mutant' tyres
on: October 23, 2020, 05:32:35 PM
Dunlop reckon that these tyres are all things to all men, offering the handling and stability of hypersport tyres, best wet grip and the durability of of touring tyres. They are designed for 'powerful crossover bikes' like the BMW SX1000R, Versys and Yamaha Tracer. They have standard touring profiles but with a 'knobbly-esque' tread pattern (reckon I've just invented a new word there :169:)

Has anyone tried them? If so what do you think of them? I'm interested as I find my self doing fewer fast road miles, and more exploring countryside roads and twisty little lanes, often with very poor surfaces: these could be ideal.  :027:

Is this a re-release, kind of like they have done with Roadsmart 2's?
Seems like these were out years ago catering to the Supermoto crowd, but more a treaded sport tire than sport-tour tire.
Curious why its not available in the US.

FWIW I have used the Avon Trairiders for my bad roads type tire for this class of bikes.
I have to deal with dirt & sand roads, and like to explore gravel too.
Got a set coming for the Versys.

Help - my tyres have got Coronavirus!

I told you! See? They’re all covered in little spikes, just like a virus thingummy.

And it says on the sides that they’re Mutants: there that proves it. I read all about it on Facebook, so it must be true. They’re obviously seriously infected.

But these are not just tyres, these are M&S tyres, it says so here.

Apparently that doesn’t stand for Marks and Spencer, but for mud and snow. Who knew? I certainly didn’t. Anyway, they’ve not been off the drive yet so I can’t tell you anything about them except that they round and black (and spiky!) and cost £240 excluding fitting.

I read about these Dunlop tyres first in MoreBikes and thought they might be suitable for me, as I do more and more riding on country lanes and less and less on A roads. So I fancied a change from the usual sports-touring fare.

I’ll keep you updated.

See that tread? Definitely Big Boys Ruffty-Tuffty tyres  :008:
