Great improvement (it wasn't difficult). Cornering lights are another good reason to switch from Mk2 to Mk3.
kris, no offence at all

I always felt CC was ridiculous. Your hands are on the bars anyway. But now with it, I find comfort using it when a cop follows me for 5 miles. Or going through a radar zone labeled strictly enforced. Trying to adjust something on my left sleeve or glove. On a 500-600 mile day it lets you stretch your right arm or hand without stopping. I've ridden a KLR RTW and Prudhoe Bay to Ushuaia and made a DIY throttle hold to allow occasional hands off riding.
I just came across this thread because my C.C. is intermittent and I want it full time for a trip I'm taking in about a week. Thanks for the great inputs and manual pictures. My manual is 2000 miles away-didn't think I'd need it.

In what way is it intermittent?

Mine won't engage when the button is pressed. Maybe 10 miles later with many presses it may come on and work. But riding at night and trying to press the set button, I accidentally hit the wrong button and disengage it. I wish they were illuminated buttons. I downloaded the manual pictures from above and will look at my lever positions.

I can turn mine on as soon as the ignition is turned on an the appropriate light comes on, on the dash. But I can't set it until various parameters are met. Page 154 or 147 in your manual depending on version

I would like to know if anyone had this intermittent problem and resolved it themselves. And if you did, which switch was the problem? Clutch lever, front brake lever, rear brake, accelerator, or the on/off cruise control button.

Darn,
did some wintertime maintenance, cleaned and lubed all 4 control levers, now CC doesn't work.
Light on dash comes on but that's it. I've visually checked over it all but to no avail. Now for the deep dive into CC!

Since you were at the levers, check the clutch and brake light switches and see that they are working.... sometimes they get dirty and stick, or your lever needs adjusting. Contact cleaner will flush out dirt on the plungers.

There's a little microswitch on the back of the righthand footrest connected to the rear brake pedal.I adjusted the pedal once and the cruise wouldn't engage so I had to move the microswitch slightly and all was fine again.

I thought about that too, did adjust it slightly, still no work, maybe try a little more.
Weather's bad now so no checking it out for now.
