Topic moved from main board as it is not Versys 1000 related  :9:

    Note:
Topics in the main board must have some relationship to the Versys 1000. If the subject relates to another bike or a general motorcycle issue then it goes in the "On Two Wheels" board.  :039:

I've never ridden an automatic gearbox bike but I've heard good things. If it ever became an option on the versys I'd be tempted to change mine. Don't want shaft drive, it's too heavy and I've no probs maintaing the chain. The versys Is almost perfect, it's just the height that I find awkward sometimes, even though I've lowered it.

Before you switch I would really put some miles on one. A buddy of mine has had a few GoldWings and bought one with DCT last summer. He liked it initially but after two summers headed back to a manual. It all comes down to rider preferences and use but slow speed does not feel normal with it to him. The few miles I have put in it never felt normal either.

I test rode a VFR1200X adventure with DCT.  It is truly like an automatic, which you will get accustomed to, but the pre-programmed shift points may not work for you, even in manual mode it may upshift sooner than you'd like...... while very rare, I have read of DCT issues (electronic, not mechanical) on the older VFR1200's..... ECU's are expensive... I say go manual and avoid any potential issues.

Experience is a great teacher, she gives you the tests first and the lessons later.
