Im a bit confused, new versys arriving next week, it comes with a 12v socket as standard, but I want to power my phone via usb off it.
I cant seem to find out if I can just plug in a cigarette lighter style usb style socket which I used in my car or do I need something else?
sorry for what may be a daft question, thanks

Vern, I have a V1K and on the left, it has a 12v dc power socket, so yeah, you could put a plug-type converter for whatever charger or usb.  I've also seen usb ports you can replace that with, or install in another hole to have more options.

I replaced the stock 12v socket with a USB port.  Fits in the hole and not a big deal to replace.

Ive plugged a USB socket into the 12 volt socket so I can charge my phone/torch etc etc. Make sure you get one that's long/deep enough to reach the bottom of the 12 volt socket.

you can also get usb charging sockets that also show the voltage output. Its a handy enough little feature so you know what drain things like heated grips and other extras consume, not to mention the output of your battery. Same installation point and cheap as chips think i got mine from ali express for about 8 euro and its been on the bike for a couple of years now!

For reference, this is the last one that I purchased for my bike - it is a fast charge model and has one USB (I run a cable from that outlet into my tankbag to a USB hub, so I can charge various flashlights, sena, etc. on the go) and a USB-C plug for my phone.

Generically, some adapters can be a little finicky as far as how well the stay plugged in - too much vibration seems to make them 'pop up'  and lose connection with the base of the outlet.   Not so bad on my versys, but my buddy has a hell of a time keeping the adapter plugged into his Buell Ulysses :027:

Fair point. I have two chargers that work perfectly well in the car but are unreliable on the Versys, one being almost useless. The other is a bit hit and miss but hits often enough to be worth using.
